Subject: Translated transcript of telephone conversation between Major General Lavr Kornilov of the Russian EMERCOM and an unknown party, taking place after a press conference given by Colonel Shizuko Ishihara.

Kornilov: —its own is good. But when did NERV get a fifth pilot? It’s only due time until the pilots become skilled enough to overpower the TRIDENT!

XXXX: Yes, and there seems to be commotion from Norway as well. Soon they’ll have 6 operational Evangelions, and we still don’t know anything about how these “A.T. Fields” work, or even how the Evangelions can stand upright without collapsing on themselves, let alone their true nature.

Kornilov: Indeed, but those are secrets that I doubt NERV will give up without a fight. As for the more recent issue: what has your digging uncovered about the Angel attack?

XXXX: Unfortunately, due to my position, I can’t scrape up any more makes its way to the lower ranks. What I’ve gathered though, is that the Vice Commander sees it as no coincidence that the Angel arrived so soon after the latest Evangelion unit awoke.

Kornilov: But that raises more questions. Mostly, why have four other Evangelion units awoken without Angel activity?

XXXX: I don’t know. I can’t get close enough to the scientists to find out without raising suspicions.

Kornilov: Hmmmm… How about the pilot of the TRIDENT? He’s been working with the NERV scientists for 3 months now. He should be able to move and ask questions without raising too much suspicion.

XXXX: But isn’t he the really moral type? I doubt we’d have his cooperation.

Kornilov: Remind him of who keeps his parents.

XXXX: Yes sir. I’ll report back to you after the encounter.

Kornilov: Dismissed.
